“I have been a tarot reader for nearly 8 years and offer online / in-person consultations as a side-hustle!”

What kind of actor do you aspire to be?

I want to be able to play a variety of characters who explore their range of humanity, with authenticity, and inspire others to see a different worldview.

What performance piece did you choose for the showcase and why?

I did a monologue from Boy Gets Girl by Rebecca Gilman – I think the topic of women’s safety is (unfortunately) always relevant and important to talk about, plus I find the way the character struggles to place her sense of accountability very relatable and honest.

It was also one of the monologues I used to audition into drama schools in 2018, so the process of rehearsing it again made me appreciate how far I’ve come as an actor

What book, theatre, film or TV production has most inspired you?

(only because you’re forcing me to choose one right now) Deaf West Theatre put up Spring Awakening the musical in New York and when I watched it live, I was moved and empowered by how – aside from strong words and messages targetted at youths – dance, body language and diverse (dis)abilities are able to make us conscious of many untold stories.

How have you been keeping creative during lockdown?

I created a dedicated TikTok for anime, particularly featuring the Haikyuu! series, where I cosplay and lip-sync funny skits as different characters. It has been super fun and rewarding, and I get many artistic inspirations from various videos on my FYP!

What advice would you give for anyone else preparing for a showcase?

Pick a piece that speaks to your core values, and/or a character you want to play. If it’s the first one you think of, that’s okay! It’s all about being comfortable in your own skin and the words you want to say, in my opinion.

What do you hope to be doing this time next year?

Ideally, I hope to have a lovely routine either auditioning / making self tapes while teaching drama, or being involved in a major theatre / film / tv production (not necessarily as a lead but that would be great too!). Whatever it is, I hope I can focus on it without being concerned about my financial situation.
